Social Media and Community Connections

Connect With American Saudade

Follow the Mission. Join the Conversation. Share the Story.

American Saudade, Inc. is building more than a website. We are building a connected community of mariners, educators, historians, veterans, students, researchers, cultural organizations, businesses, families, and individuals who believe that maritime heritage should be preserved and shared.

Our social-media channels extend the mission beyond this website. They offer places to follow the refit of S/V American Saudade, explore maritime history, join 360-DEEP™ discussions, watch educational programs, discover current projects, share family photographs, and connect with others across the Atlantic world.

Help Expand the Network

Following ASI is only the beginning.

You can help strengthen the mission by:

  • Sharing an ASI post with family and friends

  • Inviting others to join the Facebook community

  • Subscribing to the YouTube channel

  • Commenting thoughtfully on educational discussions

  • Contributing a family photograph or maritime story

  • Suggesting a person ASI should interview

  • Recommending a museum, school, business, or maritime organization

  • Sharing ASI programs through your organization’s network

  • Linking to the ASI website

  • Requesting inclusion in the ASI Community Connections Directory

Every responsible share helps another person discover the mission.

Atlantic Connections Network

Connecting Organizations Across the Maritime and Cultural Community

The Atlantic Connections Network is a proposed ASI program through which qualified organizations, institutions, businesses, educational programs, and community groups may request to exchange links, share selected resources, or explore opportunities for mutual support.

The purpose is not simply to accumulate website links. It is to build a useful network that connects people with credible organizations working in maritime heritage, education, culture, research, preservation, community service, and the Atlantic diaspora.

Who May Request a Connection?

Potential participants include:

  • Museums, archives, and historical societies

  • Schools, colleges, universities, and libraries

  • Maritime academies and sailing programs

  • Veterans and Merchant Marine organizations

  • Portuguese and Cape Verdean cultural organizations

  • Genealogy and family-history groups

  • Maritime publications and educational media

  • Environmental and ocean-education programs

  • Yacht clubs, marinas, boatyards, and marine associations

  • Nonprofit and civic organizations

  • Community businesses supporting the mission

  • ASI partners, sponsors, and collaborating institutions

  • Responsible researchers, authors, filmmakers, and historians

Ways We Can Connect

An approved organization may participate through:

  • A listing in the ASI Community Connections Directory

  • An exchange of relevant website links

  • Sharing an educational article, video, event, or research resource

  • Cross-promotion of a mutually relevant public program

  • A joint interview, lecture, panel, or Zoom event

  • A partner or organization spotlight

  • Cooperation on historical or archival research

  • Referral of volunteers, students, researchers, or speakers

  • Collaboration on exhibits, publications, or community events

  • Development of a more formal partnership when appropriate

A reciprocal link may be encouraged, but it should not be required. Participation should be based on relevance and public benefit, not a simple exchange of web traffic.

Request a Link or Connection

Organizations seeking inclusion should provide:

  • Organization name

  • Website address

  • Primary contact person

  • Email address

  • Location and service area

  • Nonprofit, educational, public, or commercial status

  • Brief description of the organization

  • Connection to ASI’s mission

  • Requested type of relationship

  • Specific page or resource to be linked

  • Whether the organization is willing to link to ASI

  • Proposed opportunities for future cooperation

Review Standards

ASI should review every request before publication.

A listing should be relevant to the mission, reasonably current, safe for public use, and presented accurately. ASI should decline websites or organizations that contain deceptive information, unlawful material, hate-based content, partisan campaign activity, unsafe advice, or material inconsistent with ASI’s educational and charitable purposes.

ASI may include commercial businesses that provide a legitimate maritime, educational, cultural, community, or mission-related resource. Paid sponsorships and advertisements should be identified separately from unpaid resource listings.

Inclusion does not mean that ASI endorses every statement, service, product, or activity of the listed organization. ASI may update or remove a listing when information changes or the connection no longer serves the mission.

Mutual Support With a Purpose

The strongest networks do more than exchange links. They exchange knowledge, opportunities, audiences, and trust.

An organization may introduce ASI to a researcher. ASI may help promote a museum program. A university may provide a student intern. A maritime company may contribute technical knowledge. A cultural association may help preserve a family history. A local business may help introduce the mission to a new community.

E
ach connection can become another line in a much larger Atlantic network.

Connect. Share. Collaborate. Preserve.
